Born in 1967 in Uthiru, Kabete (Kenya), Joseph Thiongo realized his talent for art at a very early age. He studied at Uthiru Primary School between 1974 and 1981. He completed his secondary education at Kabete High School in 1985. It was here that his artistic skills were recognized by his Geography teacher, after being impressed by his map drawing skills. His teacher said, “Joseph, I hope you will be an artist”. And this is something he never forgot. He worked for the Coffee Board of Kenya until 1990, during which time he got closer to appreciating the various local landscape. Since then Thiongo has painted mainly in watercolor, capturing natural beauty of various Kenyan landscape. Thiongo is 44 years old, married, with two children.
Thiongo’s paintings have been around Nairobi for a long time though his popularity has only been on the rise within the past year or so. We are happy to add him as an artist on this website and know that his interesting combination of colors, along with his wonderful eye for detailed animal depictions, will gain him international attention.
