Random Artists

Sometimes I find paintings that are irresistible. Some of the artists are less known, unknown, one-offs, or for some reason never quite made it, or found their passion in art. Nonetheless, some these paintings are no less beautiful than more known artists. Sometimes, as in the case of the Ssali below, even the gallery owner did not know the gem that he had in stock and I swiped it away for a good deal – and these good deals are passed along to you. The paintings below are made by random artists, miscellaneous paintings that have found themselves displayed for all.

Bio on Ssali Yusef:

Ugandan painter Ssali Yusuf, born April 24, 1983, has only been painting professionally since 2003, yet is rapidly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the East African art world. Yusuf is captivated by the human form and the shape of color. Each of his works is a study of their interplay—this yellow slumping of the shoulders, that blue turning of the head. His bold use of vibrant color dominates the canvas, and in so doing highlights the figures that populate it.His bold use of vibrant color dominates the canvas, and in so doing highlights the figures that populate it.Most often, the figures he captures are women.Yusuf says this is because his inspiration is rooted in admiration for the vast amounts of work that the African women he grew up surrounded by are responsible for: from raising children, to fetching water, to tending the land.

Yusuf holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Fine Arts from Makerere University. Yusuf’s work have been exhibited at the Makerere University art gallery, Tulifanya art gallery, AID Child Organization, and Afriart gallery in Kampala Uganda. Watatu gallery & Ramoma art gallery in Nairobi,Kenya. Evere Commune Brussels Belgium, NATTA art in Eastern Europe, and others. He is a active member of the Uganda artists association (UAA) and the Uganda German culture society (UGCS) in Kampala, Uganda as well as being a member of the Butterfly Project in Uganda which works with deprived school children. The artist resides in Kampala, Uganda.
